The Conference is organized by Riga Technical University in cooperation with Latvian IT Cluster.

It will take place at Riga Technical University, which is located in the heart of Riga’s historical centre. The venue is only in 5 minutes walking distance from Riga airport shuttle bus stop, central railway station and other important public transportation lines. It is surrounded by many hotels and hostels.

The Riga city lies on the coast of the Baltic Sea at the Latvia’s largest river’s Daugava delta and is located only 20 km from the most famous Latvian resort Jurmala. The city is known for its architecture which makes it one of the largest centers of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in Europe.

Information about public transportation

The types of public transportation that you can use

There are trams, trolleybuses as well as city buses available in Riga. To go from the two main areas where ADBIS 2009 is held you can use the following transportation:

  • Trams number 4 and 5;
  • Trolleybus number 9;
  • City buses number 3, 22, 30, 32, 35 and 43

To go from Meža iela to Kaļķu iela:

  • Get on a tram near Zvanu iela and get off on the next stop after crossing the bridge (see maps in previous section)
  • Get on a bus or on a trolley-bus at Daugavgrīvas iela outside the RTU faculty of CS and IT courtyard and get off on the next stop after crossing the bridge (see maps in the previous section)

To go from Kaļķu iela to Meža iela:

  • Get on a tram at 11. Novembra krastmala and get off at Nometņu iela (see maps in the previous section)
  • Get on a trolleybus at 11. Novembra krastmala and get off at Kalnciema iela (see maps in the previous section)
  • Get on the bus at 11. Novembra krastmala and get off at the Kalnciema iela (see maps in the previous section)

Routs of the transportation as well as location of stops and directions of traffic are depicted in previous section.

You may choose to go by taxi as well. Taxi-cabs are usually scattered in Vecrīga (area around the RTU main building), but are not common at Meža iela. Going by taxi from Kaļķu iela to Meža iela will cost you approximately LVL 3-5, depending on the taxi-company of your choice.

If you choose to go by taxi from Kaļķu iela to LIDO it will cost you approximately LVL 5-8, depending on the taxi-company of your choice.

Transportation tickets

While in Riga, you may occasionally hear about “e-talons”. This is an electronic multi-ticket system for Riga public transportation, which is used by the locals. We suggest you to buy single ride tickets from the driver. In order to buy them you must get into the first carriage of any public transportation. When you get on a public transportation, go up to the driver and ask him for a ticket. One ticket costs LVL 0.60. The cost does not depend on for how long is the ride. Keep that ticket while you are riding that particular transportation, you will have to show it to ticket-controllers, if they check the transportation that you are on.

Departure times

Trams are active from 5 AM till midnight. If you choose to go by a tram, all you need to do is to go to the tram stop and wait there. Trams are running with an interval from four minutes to half an hour, depending on the time of the day.

Trolleybuses are active from 5 AM till 11:30 PM. Trolleybuses are running with an interval from ten minutes to half an hour, depending on the time of the day.

City buses are active from 6 AM till 11:30 PM. City buses are running with an interval from five to forty minutes, depending on the time of the day.

The most frequent traffic is during the morning hours, 7 to 10 AM, and during the rush hours from 4 to 7 PM.
There are timetables with departure times for all transportation at every stop.
